In this article we explore the first step of a Career ReDesign using the Work & Life Canvas, a powerful tool for individuals seeking a career change or exploring new professional opportunities. The Work & Life Canvas is a visual representation of skills, interests, values, and aspirations, providing a dynamic roadmap to navigate career paths effectively. The step-by-step guide includes self-reflection, defining values, identifying strengths and skills, exploring interests, reflecting on personal and professional achievements, setting goals and aspirations, considering work motivators, creating the canvas, and adapting and iterating over time. The article also suggests a bonus step of creating a Vision Board based on the canvas for a more visual and creative approach. In Ken Blanchard's exploration of servant leadership for his book "Servant Leadership in Action," he underscores the importance of prioritizing others over oneself. This approach involves both a specific mindset and a set of skills. Blanchard illustrates the integration of servant leadership principles into leadership development programs, using SLII and First-time Manager as examples. These programs showcase servant leadership in action through strategic goal setting and appreciation/redirection conversations.

The widespread use of leadership conversations in these programs is due to their embodiment of servant leadership principles. Managers employing this philosophy empower individuals to work autonomously, fostering responsibility and collaboration. Through servant leadership, managers ensure clarity of objectives and adapt their guidance based on subordinates' developmental levels, facilitating growth. Blanchard emphasizes that servant leadership is about helping individuals, particularly when they are new to a task, providing temporary guidance for them to take responsibility and move in the right direction.

I recently attended the EMCC Italy conference to connect with the local community and gain a better understanding of what brings them together. The conference had a strong business-oriented approach, with a significant presence of people from the business environment.

Key speakers included Peter Hawkins, who emphasized the need for leadership development to evolve at the same speed as the increasing challenges for individual and collective leadership, and Lise Lewis, who highlighted the benefits of supervision for coaches and mentors, as well as the growing need to provide supervision to leaders in organizations. The conference provided me with a unique opportunity to enrich my perspective on what EMCC has to offer in Italy.
